Upon the Hellenic Armed Forces' recovery of the Macedonian territories, one of the primary tasks of the General Administration was the establishment of an archaeological service. For that the Central Command of H.M. the King gradually dispatched to the General Administration of Macedonia the specialists who happened to serve in the Armed Forces.

And thus, on the 9th day of November of 1912, the Ephoriate of Antiquities of the nome [district] of Thessalo- niki was established.

And on the 29th of December, the Ephoriate of a second nome centered at Elasson under ephor Arbanitopoulos; and finally, on the 18th of May 1913, a third archaeological district, that of the nome of Western Macedonia was set under ephor Pappadakis with headquarters in Florina.

The Ephoriate of Thessaloniki was joined by lieutenant- reserve architect A. Orlandos from December 1912 until May 1913.
